Wednesday 4th December 2019 - 10:30 to 12:00 Even this late in the morning, there were still patches of frost on the ground and ice across much of the lake. Since my last visit a few weeks ago most of the leaves have gone from the trees and the park looks wintery. There were a lot more gulls wheeling around. Mostly Black-headed and mostly preferring to stand on the ice rather than sit in the water. Two Kingfishers were flashing around the shore trying to find open water to fish in. There were Redwings feeding on the holly and yew berries with Song Thrushes , Blackbirds and Starlings . One Song Thrush was hardy enough to take a bath in the lake. Unusually I had two close sightings of a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Chaffinch . Two Egyptian Geese were grazing on the meadow among many Canada Geese . A full list of the birds seen is in the Bird Table .
