Monday 8th June 2020 - 07:00 to 09:15 It was grey and cooler than we have come to expect. As we arrived we were greeted by a Greenfinch and a Great Spotted Woodpecker - it pays to come early. There were baby birds everywhere. Young Robins, Starlings and Great Tits in the gardens. Juvenile Canada Geese, Moorhens, Coots and Mallards on the lake. Some of the ducklings were tiny and newly hatched while others were almost identical to their parents. There were at least three different age groups in the crèche of goslings. We did not see the Egyptian Geese. One of the Great Crested Grebes was on their nest and the other was guarding nearby. Maybe it was too cool for the terrapins to be out; but we hope the grebes will be left in peace for a change. In Grattons Park a Little Egret was watching the stream from a high tree. We also saw Swifts and a female Blackcap . A full list of birds seen is given in the Bird Table .
