Nuthatch, Photo: Ingrid Payne
It was a chilly, sunny day when we did the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch for the park. There was a noisy gathering of 12 Magpies in the tops of the trees. The two adult Egyptian Geese were out and about. There were 50 Canada Geese and 80 Black-headed Gulls making a lot of noise. The 3 odd hybrid ducks are still around. It was nice to see 2 Nuthatches . But small birds were scarce - which seems to the way when you are doing a count. There are a few Snowdrops in flower; some catkins are starting to show and the green leaves of Daffodils are coming up. Our sightings have been entered in the RSPB online database. You will be able to see the national results soon. They are used by various ornithological organisations. At the end of 2022 our records for the year were: 12 lists; 272 records and 42 species. A full list of the birds seen is given in the Bird Table .
