Canada Geese and goslings (photo:Tom Howard-Jones 31/05/24)
It was a warm sunny day and, being Sunday, was very busy with walkers and dogs. The flocks of water birds and their young had not changed since the last check. Some 18 goslings were in the Canada Goose crèche. 2 goslings were with the pair of Greylag Geese . 5 well-grown goslings were roaming away from their Egyptian Geese parents. There are Mallard ducklings of different ages and stages of growth. Some are small and others are nearly adult sized. One of the pair of Swans was sitting on the nest. The other was on the lake. A Grey Heron flew in but did not stay long. There is a new Coot nest under the overhanging branches of a tree. Another pair of Coots were with 2 juveniles. A croquet game was in progress so we did not see the Mistle Thrushes. 19 species of birds were seen. A full list of the birds seen is given in the Bird Table .
