The young water birds are growing quickly and becoming more independent. It is increasingly difficult to work out which ones are in which family. It seemed that some 18 goslings were in the Canada Goose crèche and 2 goslings were with the pair of Greylag Geese . 1 Egyptian gosling was on its own. One of the pair of Swans was sitting on the nest. The other was on the lake. A Grey Heron flew in and was standing by the nest on the island. The Coot nest under the overhanging branches of a tree at the north end of the lake had 2 adults on it. Another pair of Coots were with 2 juveniles . We saw more House Sparrows than usual including 3 taking a dust bath on the path. There were 2 Mistle Thrushes on the croquet lawn with Starlings and Sparrows . 21 species of birds were seen. A full list of the birds seen is given in the Bird Table .
